SIGNING AND THE BRAIN: THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY EDUCATION FOR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING CHILDREN

In the second half of 2020, I conducted scientific research into the D/deaf/HH experience in America, spreading awareness of the shortcomings of Deaf education and advocating for alternative language forms. I spent months searching about the underlying causes of the issues pervading the Deaf community and learned how useful visual language like American Sign Language is in eliminating many of these problems. I am impassioned to improve the well-being of the Deaf/HH community, and I truly believe only through education, advocacy, and integration can we expect to see beneficial changes in real life.
